Berlin Markets, Jazz Festival & Pride

Boxhagener in Friedrichshain area – organic market in Gabriel-Max Strasse in Boxhagener Platz. Nearest overground and underground stations: Warschauer Strasse and Samariter Strasse
Food market: Sat 08:00 – 13:30 | Flea Market Sun 10:00 – 18:00
This little square (platz) is situated in the trendy area of Friedrichshain. If you are a Londoner this area would be the equivalent to Hoxton/Shoreditch. There are predominantly pre-war buildings and its own commercial and cultural infrastructure. This market sells mainly fresh, organic food, local specialties and Berliner snacks on Saturdays and it’s a flea market on Sundays.

Most of East side of town have been rebuilt after the fall of the Berlin wall. However, some buildings still in their original state and graffiti is Berliners favourite vehicle of expression.  It’s a fascinating, relaxing and at the some time, a vibrant city.  Full of art, culture and shear madness. I love it. A bit of Berlin on the way to the next market:

East meets West

Berlin TV Tower – there is a restaurant and bar there. Have a look at the view at the top here

Marheinekeplatz Markthalle in Marheinekeplatz in the Kreuzberg area
Nearest underground: Gneisenaustrasse
Hours: Monday-Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm
A small but well formed covered market- limited amount of stalls selling fresh produce, fish, lots of German cheeses, wines, eggs and an insane variety of sausages. Some stalls are  friendlier than others. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars selling local fares. At the back of this building there’s a  small flea market on Saturdays, selling mainly household utensils and brick-bracks.
Molecular gastronomy demo at Marheinekeplatz Markthalle – promoting molecular gastronomy awareness in various areas of food and drink as well as, courses and workshops with focus on the practical and realistic implementation of basic molecular techniques. Brilliant!

A street Jazz Festival was taking place nearby in Bergmannstrasse at the weekend. Lots stalls selling street food, drinks, souvenirs and live music.  I tried this drink:
100 ml shot glasses – tinned small figs, frozen apple juice topped with 25ml of Vodka
there were lots of Brazilian stalls – they are fanatic about caipirinha!

Alt-Böhmischer – ‘cake’ from Bohemia

special oven baking alt-bohmischer at the festival
Freshly baked – very tasty!
We also went to St Christopher’s Street day, also known as Berlin Pride:
