Two Winter Wonders in Brussels Not to Miss

Though there are a plethora of things to see, do, and discover during the winter months in Brussels, there are two particular winter wonders you will surely not want to miss out on…

Brussels Christmas Market

As with so many other neighboring European countries, Brussels also participates in hosting some of the most loved Christmas markets around. Located in the area around the Grand Place walking towards  Place Sainte Catherine and the Vismarkt, you will find over 200 ‘chalets’ filled with delectable holiday goodies, handicrafts perfect for filling your suitcase with, and a certain Christmas charm you won’t find anywhere else. In addition to visiting each of the stands, you will get the chance to have some real thrill at the on-site ice skating rink and some other fantastic attractions such as a Ferris wheel, slalom track, and merry-go-round! Whether you are traveling alone, with friends,  with your loved one or with a family full of little ones, Christmas markets are one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit and truly experience what Christmas time in Brussels is all about.
There’s plenty to see, buy, drink and eat. A must is the mulled wine, and some pretty good street food from all over the world are on offer too.

The Grand Place Light Show

Once you have done your fair share of wandering about the vibrant Christmas market, just steps away will bring you to a fantastic evening filled with an array of colorful lights illuminating each part of the Unesco World Heritage Site that is the Grand Place which is surrounded by magnificent historic buildings,  with a breathtaking Christmas tree right in the center of it all.

With a total of over 1,600 rails and LED spots, this show is truly a work of art and something that you certainly won’t want to miss out on if visiting Brussels in the winter. It has been a long time tradition and an event where people from all over the world come to experience, take in and sway along to the sounds of music as the tunes dance right along with the lights.  The light show happens in Brussels from 5.30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m., every 30 minutes. The lights underline the contour of the majestic buildings – a real magical experience.

I've been on at my other half to take me to Brussels, he has a friend who lives there who wouldn't mind having us to stay for a weekend! It looks so magical this time of year and nothing beats a proper European Christmas market! The grand palace light show looks like something out of a fairytale!
