Dusit Thani is an international hospitality company with headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Dusit International has 29 hotels, resorts in 18 countries and a hospitality college.

I had the privilege to visit their college premises in Bangkok. I was very impressed with what I saw. It made me want to go back to school.

The college, founded in 1993, is a private educational institution accredited by the Ministry of University Affairs of Thailand, offers a bachelor’s degree in business administration in various disciplines.

The four years full-time course is designed to teach everything about hospitality from culinary arts to restaurant management and planning, food and menu design, tourism innovation, mixology including making your own drink recipes.

The course also covers hotel management and housekeeping, front office, food and beverage, spa including anatomy, flower arrangement and fruit carving, operations and business administration for hospitality – profit and loss and all aspects of health and safety.

They are the most famous Asian college of this type and have a collaboration with Le Cordon Bleu, making more straightforward and affordable for locals to have a high standard learning in Professional Culinary Arts, which is jointly certified by Le Cordon Bleu.

Renovations were in place during our visit, they have a solar panel installed, and all the old machines will be part of an onsite museum.

They have theoretical and practical classes. They also provide placements for internships and training in high-end establishments.

Internationally recognised, the college is well structured, designed and equipped at high calibre pieces of equipment that are updated frequently to make teaching easy and to keep up with modern technology.

The maximum number of students per theoretical class is forty. The practical classes are divided into two groups of twenty pupils, to make sure all students get involved in the practical activities.

The students are allowed to have hands-on practise at the college when they hold events, at their restaurant and café where the public come to have meals. This way, they have proper experience before going into training in the real world.

Just before completing the course, the students are offered training at four or five-star establishments. They are continuously observed by instructors to make sure they are training not only the basics but getting involved in everyday challenges and pushing themselves as problem solvers.

They have the chance to move around different departments to make the most of their experience. These placements can be anywhere in Thailand.

It was a fantastic tour at Dusit Thani College, they provide an excellent and comprehensive course for the hospitality industry.

They also released the book ‘Authentic Thai Cuisine – Dusit Thani standard’ after much research this gem of a book was born out of the passion to preserving original and traditional Thai cuisine recipes for now and the future generations.
