Tredwell’s by Marcus Wareing

Cocktail at Tredwell’s : apples, pears elderflower vodka – cheers!

Tredwell’s by Marcus Wareing  is a casual and affordable dining in Covent Garden. I must confess that I did not read any of the reviews before setting foot in the venue.  It was a good thing as reviews were not very flattering, I discovered it later.  This venue is a more down-to-earth eatery by the Michelin star chef Marcus Wareing, reaching the masses.  It’s conveniently located next to London’s theatreland and fashionable shops.I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the venue in a busy evening. Nice and smiley welcome from the front of the house and absolutely lovely decor. My kind of place, moody, modern, strategic lighting, leather, tiles, floor to ceiling glass front that allows the light to flood into the whole restaurant.  Above all, my dinner date was my good friend, Jeanne, aka Cooksister, so it was a winner night!

The service was friendly and cordial. At first, I was disappointed to be directed to our seats upstairs. But when I saw the room I was delighted! Our table overlooked downstairs, and we could see everyone on our floor. Prime position to people watch and to be seen. Perfect!

Treadwell’s  serves breakfast and Sunday Roast (from 16.50-£19.50/person), which I am looking forward to tasting sometime soon.

The meal at Tredwell’s

slow cooked salmon, cauliflower couscous, bonito and coriander – the salmon was beautifully cooked, but this dish was a bit bland for my palate (£8)

 Prawns,
white polenta, roast garlic in chicken broth (£9.5) – that was my dish –
I love polenta, so that was a winner for me very plump prawn in a
light  and very tasty stock – delicious!  The starters were light and
some on the healthy side.

beef short ribs smoked and slow cooked
Enormous beef short ribs smoked and slow cooked – falling off the bone and very juicy the smell of the meat took over the place. What a show stopper! (£29)
Slow cooked pork belly at Tredwell's
Slow cooked pork belly (no crackling) and cheek with fennel and juniper, celery and pea puree – again my dish and I loved it. Lots of textures and well seasoned. (£17)
Smooth salted caramel soft serve with crunch ever so sweet honeycomb
Smooth salted caramel soft serve with crunch ever so sweet honeycomb – lovely ice cream! I could eat that every day (£5)
The virtuous chocolate brownie, coconut yogurt(£5)

Warm chocolate, fig and chocolate cornflakes

Warm chocolate, fig and chocolate cornflakes, some more sweet treats and fantastic coffee to finish this stupendous meal
Disclosure: I was a guest (+1) of Jeanne, Cooksister, who in turn was a guest of Tredwell’s.

Looks amazing! I always try to avoid reading too much into reviews etc and prefer to make my own mind up. I've gone to many a place who has had a poor ranking on tripadvisor but has actually been really good!
