Barbecoa is an eatery and bar in the center of the city offering an absolute glorious feast with stunning views of St Paul’s with an energetic, friendly and enthusiastic staff.
The menu provides a melange of Texan, Indian and fire pits; robata grills and wood-fired ovens, T-bones and beef chops; the wine list’s both affordable and comprehensive. There’s something for everybody on their menu. Barbecoa is a carnivore paradise, and it’s a celebration of fire-based cooking and incredible, quality and handpicked ingredients.
We visited at lunchtime, and local workers were really enjoying the eclectic menu, so were we! You feel the place is a hub for city workers, a place for serious money making and more subdued meetings. There’s an undeniable buzz about the place.
Their bar offers an impressive whiskey selection too. I must go back to sample some of those.
The decor is a mix of glass floor to ceiling with views of the majestic St. Paul’s, the trendy light fixtures, some wood and some occasional stone tables with very comfortable chairs and leather sofas. As for the service, it was faultless.
Lunch at Barbecoa London
We started the proceeding with a cool glass of Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé NV, pork scratchings that needed a bit of salt to come alive, a delicious warm Barbecoa sourdough and an addictive veal butter – I want the recipe!
Starters
Followed by grilled asparagus, truffled ricotta on toasted sourdough, pea, broad beans and to refresh it all, mint. Great salad – light and tasty.
I had the very light and flavoursome crab salad with smoked tomato, burnt lemon, creme Fraiche and surprisingly tender chorizo scattered on the plate – heaven!
Mains
Barbecoa in a bun – smoked pulled pork, dill pickles and New York Slaw |
Beef-dripping chips and a wonderful Truffled Mac and Cheese – amazing! |
Truffled Mac and Cheese |
Desserts
Digestive: Pierre Bise Coteaux du Layon Beaulieu ‘L’Anclaie’, 2004 |
This fortified wine went very well with both chocolate based dessert.
Barbecoa chocolate brownie, cherry ripple ice-cream, poached cherries – lovely moist brownie topped a velvety chocolate mousse |
Snickersphere – peanut, salted caramel, covered in fine layer of chocolate, popping candy and ice cream – fun, creative and every bit of childhood memories! |
What an epic lunch! Highly enjoyable and recommended.
Price per person (with champagne, wine, sides and digestive) was £90.
