The Breakfast Club

It was Saturday evening  and I was craving for some nice sweet and tea like kind of treats. I searched the net and I found The Breakfast Club, a pop-up brunch in the heart of Brixton. The next event was taking place the very next  afternoon. Was I too late to book? I contacted Rachel who kindly fitted me in last minute.
My first hidden, pop-up tea/brunch experience I was very excited. I thought It was peculiar going to a complete stranger’s house, unlike The London Foodie,  I’ve never had any contact with Rachel before.  The place is very accessible by public transport. Brunch starts at 2.30pm. Rachel laid a beautiful table full of lovely treats. It looked like a scene straight out of a fairytale story. It was gorgeous!  All food at Rachel’s afternoon tea are freshly made and locally sourced. There were 10 of us sitting around a big square table in her kitchen. From the flat windows you can see a couple of Brixton’s landmarks.  Rachel and Kat, her helper for the afternoon, sat with us at the end of brunch for a chat and a glass of bubbly (BYOB). It was a fantastic experience! The guests were lovely too! There were a couple of funny moments… Let’s put this way, London is very small,  careful what you say, we laughed a lot! Tip: don’t eat a big breakfast in the morning.
The menu:
Earl Grey Tea
English Tea
Darjeeling & Peach iced tea
Sandwiches on delicious homemade bread:
egg mayo on oat soda bread
smoked mackerel with dill and caper cream cheese on soft, white bread.
Bite size pumpkin pancakes with chorizo and crème fraîche
Freshly baked scones, clotted cream and good jams
Pistachio and Grapefruit Macarrons
And the star of the afternoon :  coconut and lime cake !
Highly recommended mouthful of freshly made food.
