Nothing like having a lie in on the weekend and then enjoy a lovely long brunch with friends. Having someone cooking for you and not having to do the washing up is for me an indulgence that I am more than happy to partake! This weekend I was invited to review the brunch menu at Avenue in London St James, and since my excellent dinner experience there back in December I was delighted to oblige.
Brunch at Avenue
Brunch is a meal served between breakfast and lunch and usually combine dishes from both menus. It’s eaten from late morning to mid-afternoon, somewhere around 11 am and 3 pm. It’s quite a substantial meal as it covers breakfast and lunch, and it is usually washed down with either a cocktail or bubbles, coffee and teas too. At Avenue, their brunch menu includes starters of yoghurt, fruits and granola; waffles and pancakes; sourdough toast with various toppings including avocado and eggs; poached eggs on muffins with salmon, cured ham or spinach. We didn’t order the later, but we wished we had. It looked amazing!
The mains consisted of more of light lunch dishes. On the menu were a delicious and crunchy Asian coleslaw, sticky pork belly and fried egg on top – everything tastes better with an egg on top! There were a Hoisin duck version and a miso aubergine for the vegetarians. The Mac ‘n’ Cheese dishes suggestions were cheddar; bacon & spinach and the deluxe lobster version. A selection of burgers looked perfect too.
Side dishes (£5 supplement) on offer are chips, sweet potato fries, Asian coleslaw and french beans.
For the grand finale, desserts, an excellent choice of sweets is on offer. We decided to got with the intense chocolate brownie with a smooth vanilla ice cream and a selection of British cheeses – cow, sheep and goats cheeses, with quince jelly and crackers (£5 supplement)
The drinks menu is comprehensive with juices, smoothies, milkshakes, hard shakes (alcoholic), non-alcoholic cocktails, teas and coffees. Avenue has a selection of champagne, white, rose and red wines. They cater to allergies and intolerances, should you flag them up in advance. The brunch was delicious and the place was super busy and great atmosphere.
At Avenue Brunch is served every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 11 am to 4 pm. Brunch is also available on bank holiday Mondays.
Price: Two courses for £25.50 or three courses for £28.50
Add unlimited Bloody Marys or Bubbles (prosecco) for £18 per person.
