Copa de Cava

NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. Sometime ago I was invited to a networking event at Copa de Cava. It was pleaseant, ample, a bit dark, bricked vaulted underground venue situated in between St Pauls and Blackfriars. I really liked the venue, once I found it and thought I would love to go back and try it out on a week day. Together with my Brazilian PR friends Fabio and Gizane we went back to Copa de Cavas for a reunion and a good chinwag. We were greeted by Rocio, our friendly, sweet and well mannered waitress for the evening. Rocio suggested the dishes and we choose to have the two flights of cava.

tapas menu and an endless list of fantastic cavas

We had two different flights of cavas, three 75ml glasses of each cava to go with an array of delectable plates of tapas.

The flights:

plata • 9.75
Anna de Codorníu Brut Chardonnay
Vilarnau Brut
Mont Marcal Brut Reserva
oro • 12.75
Raventós i Blanc de Nit Reserva 2010
Conde de Haro Brut, Muga
Gramona Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2008

batatas bravas : a small cup made of potatoes with a soft, lightly spiced brava sauce which had a nice  acidic from sherry vinegar finish.  Pa Amb Tomaquet : one of my favourite tapas, it’s a simple toasted bread rubbed with tasty and riped tomatoes, roasted garlic, olive oil and flake salt. Selection of cured meats: Teruel DO Jamon, Lomo Iberico, chorizo and fuet, a marvellous mix of cured and smoked meats.
Tortilla siglo XXI – a tortilla for the 21st Century served in a glass
diced soft cooked potatoes topped with light savoury egg mixture and caramelised onions – an acquired taste.
polvo with olive oil mash, it as a beautiful combination of textures and suitable flavours ceviche of tone bass marinaded in lime juice and chilli and coriander was very fresh and the fried corn on top made it for me.
Prensa Iberica, succulent shoulder of Iberico pig, creamy pearl barley mixed with Iberico ham and topped with a cloud of manchego cheese – an explosion of tastes. My favourite dish of the evening.
Filette tartaro, steak tartare served with toast and pillows of potato crisps – sublime!
We shared the desert:  Ladrillo de chocolate, an intense rich dark chocolate brick with white chocolate truffle dotted inside, served with a tangy and sweet ginger ice cream with candied ginger.

Copa de Cava is the first dedicated Cava bar in the UK. The cava menu cover all budgets and the flights were a good solution when  you are indecisive. They host a cava masterclass, a tasting evening to discover all things Cava.  The bill came to £137.00 for cava flight for two and tapas for three. Brilliant service and venue, once you find it. Highly recommended for the food too.
