Tweed Run, a stylish bicycle ride in London

Tweed Run, bicycle ride in London

To those who may not know it, the Tweed Run is an annual very special and amazing public bicycle ride which traverses through the historic streets of London, with the requirement that the riders wear their best tweed cycling attire from the 1920s and 30s. This means turning up to the event sharply dressed in plus-fours, bow ties and Harris Tweed jackets, and cycling with others who may be wearing Merino wool jerseys, flat caps and silk cravats.

The participants can certainly expect a very entertaining day cycling with some breaks to have tea, picnic in the park, and ending with an evening of live bands, DJs, cocktails, and dancing at the glamorous awards ceremony which is open even to non-riders.

The first ever Tweed Run commenced in 2009. There, 300 tweed wearing cyclists met at the London’s Savile Row. It was a rather chilly morning in February. Since then, the small guerrilla of an event turned into a big one, which captured the imagination of the entire fashion world, including other cycling enthusiasts from all over the globe. As of today, we have already hosted Tweed Runs even in other parts of the world. However, the flagship event will always be the bike ride in London.

This bike ride event is called the ‘metropolitan bicycle ride that brought sartorial elegance back to the bicycle’; the Tweed Run easily became very successful.

From penny farthings fashion to personalised vintage two wheelers, as well as the pedal powered contemporary contraptions, this event covers diversity in the range of participants, with fashion ad style as the common ground for all. Prizes are being offered all throughout the day to those who has the most impeccable fashion, best moustaches and participants who have the best decorated and finest vintage bicycles.

This year, the route in London started at the Trafalgar Square, with a couple of breaks at some of the finest landmarks of the city, including its hidden gems, before ending at one of the finest venues located in the West End for a bubbly glass. Only the participants get the itinerary and details before the event which is sent by email the day before.
It was a fantastic event for the participants and a surprising sight for the onlookers.

I can’t wait for next year when I might be taking part.
