Celebrity Cruises, Equinox: Silhouette dining, wine tower and tasting

beautiful light at Silhouette restaurant at Celebrity Cruises Equinox, wine tower centre piece of the room

After exploring Celebrity Cruises ship and making myself at ‘home’. The first night dinner was looming and I was excited about the wine tasting session with sommelier master Sinisa and to have a tour of the famous wine tower.

Celebrity Cruises emphasis on dining experiences means that there are plenty of options on board to the delight of their customers. All premises provide for every dietary requirements, and every desire 24-7,  room service closes at midnight on the last day of the cruise.

Silhouette is the main dining room at Equinox. It is available to everyone on board at no extra fee, apart from the drinks that are charged separately. The two-level room is airy,  white with clean lines, with ingenious use of daylight and beautiful and majestic lighting throughout the two floors.

There are various tables configurations and designated waitress service per area.  A somelier is always at hand to help out with suggestions. That is common in all restaurants on this ship, except the Overview cafe.

The main attraction of the restaurant is the famous wine tower. Holding approximately 3,000 bottles of carefully selected wines. The wines are expertly sourced by Ms. Duarte, who is based in the US. The food and all approvals on the menu on board are made by the headquarters in the US.  All ingredients orders are made in-advance and sometimes are made months in advance, depending on the cruise route, to be either collected from local ports or delivered to the ship. A colossal project management by Celebrity Cruises.

Wine tasting at Equinox

There are plenty of activities on board, one of them is wine tasting and food pairing.
We started with a bubbly welcome by sommelier master Sinisa from Croatia. The perfect apéritif from Perrier-Jouët, producer of champagne since 1811.  A Refreshing ripeness of  fruits, peach and apples with a zesty mousse finesse to the palate. A very elegant start to the proceedings.

The setting for the wine tasting was the GastroBar, desk 4
we were presented with two white wines,  Petit Fume from the Loire Valley  and  South African Chardonnay; one delicious Argentinian red wine from Mendonza, Enamore and my favourite very versatile fortified wine, Taylors Tawny Port from Port in the Douro Valley, Portugal since 1692.
The cheeses: Sainte Maure de Tourrraine, camembert, comte and roquefort

Diner at Silhouette

I love a well presented table and at Silhouette that tables are every bit of elegance you would expect from an upmarket restaurant.  The menu is traditionally divided into appetisers (starters), soups and salads followed by entrees (main course) and then desserts and cheese. Along with the chef’s recommendations, vegetarian dishes are indicated on the list, as are gluten-free, dairy-free and no-sugar-added foods.

Traditional Dining: Simply choose the nightly seating time you wish before you set sail.

Celebrity Select Dining:  order from the Silhouette menu,  with more flexibility of timing to suit your schedule. This service can be booked in advance online four days prior to sailing or on board with Maitre d’

Drink packages are available and range from $7 per person, per day (soft drinks), to $54 per person, per day (soft drinks, coffee, tea, house wines, beer and some spirits); wine packages cost from $99, depending on which wines are included. Passengers can bring their own wine on board, but there’s a $25-per-bottle corkage fee to drink it in the dining room -quite steep!

‘Cookery is not chemistry, it is an art. It requires instinct and taste rather than exactly measurements’ – Marcel Boulestin

starters: Beef carpaccio layered with Dijon ailoi, peppered wild rocket – delicious and light the Escargots a la Bourguignonne with shallots, garlic, parsley and Pernod butter dish was very tasty and well seasoned.
main: light dining : salmon and cauliflower and mash
classic cesar salad
My Main: fantastic flavours and textures, chicken filled with plantain and bacon with side of rice and crisp plantain. This dish remind me of home…
desserts : delicious sticky toffee pudding , the sauce really makes it!
selection of cheese and crackers to finish

Wine: On this occasion we drank Blanc Petit Fumé, Poulilly Fumé, Loire,  one of the white wines from the wine tasting earlier. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, a vivavious dry white wine, light crisp with citrus notes and light white currant acidity. It went down very well with my dishes.

a very enjoyable meal at Sillhouette at Celebrity Cruises Equinox
