Fashionable Afternoon Tea at Kensington Hotel

To celebrate the eagerly awaited Alexander McQueen exhibition in London, Savage Beauty, the Kensington Hotel is offering a creative and very fashionable afternoon tea spread. Beautifully crafted biscuits and cakes resembling the designer’s well-known creations are truly delicious. The setting is the understated and elegant Town House restaurant located in the hotel. A tastefully decorated room surrounded by built-in bookcases feels modern with traditional accents and I love the colour palette.

The afternoon tea sweet treats are a cherry Genoese in the form of one of Alexander McQueen’s  Skull clutch bag.  A red velvet and rose water cake decorated with  Butterflies resembling the famous hat by Philip Treacy as seen at McQueen’s Spring/Summer collection in 2008.  A buttermilk pannacotta with raspberry inspired by the designer’s  ready-to-wear gown AW2008. A hand-decorated marzipan sable dress inspired by the Horn of Plenty Autumn/ Winter 2009 collection.

The savouries include a selection of finger sandwiches including Dorset crab and artichoke filling, a dazzling foie gras silver cornet with mango and pretty gold quails eggs with celery salt and mustard cress. To finish, we had scones served with clotted cream and the tastier strawberry preserve I’ve eaten for a long time.

This Spring/Summer 2015 afternoon tea is fashionably price at £35/per person. Champagne is extra. The Kensington Hotel nod to the late designer, Alexandre McQueen, is well suited to the occasion. The hotel is ideally located, just around the corner from the exhibition in South Kensington, making it a must before or after the show and local museum visits.

A walk around Alexander McQueen’s life through his most iconic designs. The first room shows his early career and breaking into the London fashion scene. The displays showcase the many contrasts, facets, diversity in the designer’s inspirations from romantic to gothic to traditional British celebration.  My favourite room is the Cabinet of Curiosities, so much to see and take it in. Seriously enchanting and interesting exhibition.
