La Boqueria with Campo Viejo at Southbank, London

It’s May and finally we are enjoying days of some much needed sun in the UK and to brighten up this bank holiday weekend the world famous, La Boqueria has landed for the first time ever on the Southbank  in between the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall courtesy of Spanish wine brand, Campo Viejo’s Streets of Spain festival. The Southbank has become a food-lovers destination and one of London’s most famous food market venues. The four day event is designed to celebrate the food, wine, art and culture of
Spain. The event is free to attend and Londoners will be able to
buy authentic Spanish produce straight from stallholders of Las Ramblas.
In addition, Campo Viejo is hosting wine masterclasses with their
experts, as well as creating a pop-up restaurant each night led by
Michelin-starred Spanish chef, Angel Pascual.

Tongue and Cheek – Giggles and jokes with Wilkes888, who I bumped into at the Southbank and I took with me to enjoy the breakfast held by Campo Viejo and La Boqueria

The very relaxing and visually exciting venue for masterclasses and chill-out area :

We met Oscar Ubide i Marcet, the General Manager of La Boqueria, who kindly introduced us to goings on at the market. La Boqueria, Barcelona, opens at 8am but the market holders start working at 3am and by 8am everything is ready for another day – the grills are raised and the market opens. Mid-morning the workers get together and over breakfast, which is their most important break of the day. Over a bottle of wine and food they discuss the prices, the market, life and general updates. Our breakfast, cooked by Benjamin Dominguez Tarancon and Joaquin Marquez Duran of La Boqueria, consisted in traditional eggs and a variety of wild mushrooms and  a refreshing glass of Campo Viejo Cava brut.

Introduction to Spanish wine masterclass:
• Introduction of Spanish Wine: Winemakers, Clara Canals and Roberto Vincent  offered full  information on the
Rioja region, Spanish grape varieties and styles, as well answering  questions. We had the opportunity to taste the full
Campo Viejo range of red wines including Tempranillo, Reserva, Gran
Reserva and its super-premium Dominio de Campo Viejo, together with two
Campo Viejo Cavas.

Other masterclasses available:

• Blend your Own Wine: a chance to become a winemaker for an hour.
• Taste Experience – Looking at how taste influences wine perception:
This will be a guide to discovering the effects of basic tastes – acid,
sweet, salty, bitter and umami – on tasting different wines using two
popular Campo Viejo products; Tempranillo and Gran Reserva.

• Advanced Spanish Wine Masterclass: Campo Viejo Winemakers will host a
Tempranillo masterclass, which as the name suggests will immerse
attendees into the delights of the noble grape variety of Rioja.

Michelin star pop-up restaurant each evening from 7pm to 10:30pm. To reserve a table, visit the Campo Viejo Facebook page Five course food and wine match will set you back  £65 per person

Cinema viewings of celebrated films previewed at the Spanish Film Festival

    Spain has a fabulous cuisine!

And what is especially nice is that many Spanish cities are catering more and more to vegetarian foodies. I was so pleasantly surprised to find several good veggie restaurants in Madrid and Valencia 🙂
