Dinner and a movie at The Brazilian Film Festival in London

Moqueca Bahiana

Brazilian Taste, a sumptuous ‘taste’ festival where the public are able to experience Brazilian inspired dishes at a selection of partnering restaurants across London, from 8th to 13th May. Brazilian Taste is running along with The Brazilian Film Festival and promises to satisfy the appetites of Londoners who want to experience Brazilian culture in exclusive culinary settings. See below for venues.

Last night we started with an early dinner at McQueen, one of many venues taking part of the Brazilian taste. McQueen is an award winning, very sleek and funky bar and restaurant  in the heart of trendy Shoreditch. McQueen’s been on my to-go list  for ages and last night I had a chance to pop in for an early diner. As part of the Brazilian Film Festival that kicked off last night at Odeon Covent Garden, they have added to their menu a special dish to celebrate and go along with the festival,  Moqueca, a typical Brazilian fish stew made with coconut milk and palm oil, served with rice and a very special farofa – is available throughout the weekend until Tuesday night when the festival finishes. If you are out and about this weekend and beginning of next week,  I highly recommend you try this dish there. It was very tasty, well seasoned, I specially liked that it wasn’t too heavy and nice portions too.

I really enjoyed this dish, well balanced amount of coriander and coconut milk,  with the special farofa, which I want the recipe for, it was full of textures and flavours.
 Brazilian Film Festival
After our early diner we head to the Brazilian Film Festival to watch the film Never too Old to Meow, staring Brazilians favourite actress, Regina Duarte as the main character. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, the film started as a drama and slowly turned into a thriller I was hooked! The theatre was packed! It was nice to see a diversity of nationalities interested in Brazilian movie last night. The Festival runs till Tuesday. Tonight we are off to watch ‘City of God- 10 years later’, that should be good!
If you are in town and would like to watch a movie, then head to Odeon Covent Garden below details and schedule for this year’s festival:
  • Tickets are priced at £10 / Concessions £8.

Disclosure: I was a guest at McQueen and The Brazilian Film Festival. All views are my own, I haven’t receive further remuneration to write this post. I wrote it because I think it’s a nice way to know a little bit about Brazilian movies and to taste Brazilian food around London this weekend.
