Eat 10 Designers Cakes

Commissioned to celebrate the 10th Birthday of AnOther Magazine. They are displayed at Selfridges, Oxford Street in London, on the Wonder Room Concept lab until 21st February. The cakes were designed by 10 of the world’s famous designers and chefs to showcase their idea of the ultimate birthday cake.

Designers taking part include Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Gareth Pugh, Christian Louboutin, Philip Treacy, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Frida Giannini for Gucci, Angela Missoni for Missoni, Vivienne Westwood and Christopher Bailey for Burberry.
They collaborated with chefs and cake makers like Mark Hix, Bompass & Parr, Julie Walsh of Le Cordon Bleu, Paul Wayne Gregory, Colin Martin, Jeremy Lee,  Peggy Porshen, Andrew Stellitano, Rachel Mount, Claire Ptak of Violet Cakes, and Caroline Hobkinson.

The curators Jefferson Hack, AnOther’s editor in chief, and food stylist and cookery writer Annie Nichols, chose Lanvin’s creation to be the center piece of the party. The cake is big enough to fit a adult body. The inspiration came from the 1950’s girls jumping out of cakes. Big enough for your sweet tooth? Here are some of  the pictures of the cakes.

Ingredients: 8,333 large egg whites, 25kg Tate & Lyle caster sugar, 250kg Tate & Lyle icing sugar. By Bompass & Parr
