Jamie’s Italian in Covent Garden

Jamie’s Italian

What a Summer it’s been! The sun has been out for quite a few days for a change and lots of delicious food and drinks to be enjoyed all over London. This new adventure took place on a Sunday at Jamie’s Italian in Covent Garden in London. If you are in the area, check them out. Great meal to be had with family, kids, friends and couples with any dietary requirements!

They offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and healthy options on their menu, which is divided into antipasti & nibbles, mains & sides, pasta, desserts, drinks and an appealing kids menu. They are happy to change ingredients on some dishes, if required and pleased to comply with any dietary requirements or allergies.

Jamie’s Italian is inspired by Jamie’s genuine passion for the Italian way of life, where food is the center of family life, to be enjoyed with and shared loved ones.

“Since I was a teenager I’ve been totally besotted by the love, passion and verve for food, family and life itself that just about all Italian people have, no matter where they’re from or how rich or poor they might be. And that’s what I’m passionate about – good food for everyone, no matter what… But the thing I love most about the Italians is that somehow, although they have some of the best fashion designers and cars in the world, they’ve managed to retain a unique sense of tradition and village spirit”.

If you ever been to Italy, experienced the Italian way of life and eating customs, you will understand what Jamie is talking about. He was able to translate the Italian spirit into a rather charming chain of restaurants.Their menu is firmly established and genuinely based on rustic dishes creations. Jamie’s mentor and friend, Gennaro Contaldo,  added his Italian touch and combined with a Jamie twist, has created a beautiful and fitting menu.

The dishes showcase the very best ingredients sourced from reputable producers, both in Italy and around the UK.  You can see the passion and care on the plates as they are served. The service at Jamie’s Italian was on point, friendly and knowledgeable on our visit. Our first round of prosecco was flat, the waitress quickly and promptly replaced them – no argument. Next, I was told that my first choice for the main course, pasta with lobster, wasn’t available any longer, as the lobster were not sustainable at the moment. I really appreciated that they follow their guidelines.

The Covent Garden restaurant is comfortable, in a prime location and reasonably priced. Not the cheapest neighbourhood chain, but the food and service is excellent and that translate into the expansion of Jamie’s Italian nationwide across the UK and also internationally.

The Meal at Jamie’s Italian Covent Garden

A lovely plate of cured meats plank I shared with Jeanne: fennel salami, pistachio
mortadella- my favourite, prosciutto &
schiacciata piccante served
with mini buffalo mozzarella,
pecorino & chilli jam on crisp flatbread, a
selection of pickles, olives
& crunchy and very tasty vegetable slaw (£13.90 for two)
selection of pickles, olives on prosciutto
cured meats plank and Nuno Franco Prosecco – ideal combination!
crunchy and very tasty vegetable slaw topped with mint

Jeanne’s Lamb Scottadito: Juicy lamb chops grilled or blistered (Scottadito) under
a brick, served with polenta
chips, pickled red onion,
smashed nuts, fresh mint
& spicy yoghurt for dunking, served on the famous Jamie’s painted board. (£18.50)

My dish: special of the day Freddie Flinstone’s size pork chop, tender, juicy and enormous! It too a while for me to get through this one, but I did it slowly….(18.95)

Red wine: Barbera d’Asti DOCG, 2011 Piedmont
Ripe, rich plummy flavours with great length it went well with both dishes (£19.40)
Grilled juicy  and tender pork chops and slaw

Polenta chips with rosemary & Parmesan
Lamb Scottadito

Americano black, not the best coffee I ever had but it was ok .  Delectable and indulgent chocolate and salted caramel Artic Roll  – perfect ending to the meal! (coffee £2.25 and artic roll £5.95)
All in all this was a very enjoyable meal. Recommend!

Your photographs are beautiful and make the food look amazing. I have only been to a Jamies Italian once and I wasn't sold, but your food looks better than what I had so I may just have to go again x
