Gingerline, the Grand Expedition review

My latest culinary adventure took me to a secret central-ish London location. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the event is shrouded in secrecy. Gingerline‘s immersive dinner theatre show is all about the mystery.

‘Gingerline are the founders and pioneers of London’s immersive dining scene and their goal is quite simply, to create the ultimate dining experience’

Their productions are legendary, bold and experimental. Their current production is nothing short of amazing. It’s based on children’s storybooks and they are told beautifully and in an animated way.

Expect movement, colour, music, projections and hand-drawn live animation, dazzling dance routines, a global-inspired five-course dinner delights and complete immersive dinning action to match no other.

It’s like travelling without leaving your seat, eating and drinking your way through the world, and no passport required! There are lots of action; guests are encouraged to take part in the fun too. Unfortunate, I can’t reveal more not to spoil the surprises this production delivers.

Tickets costs between £60 to £75 each that includes a welcome drink on arrival, a 5-course set menu designed by Gingerline’s Flavourology and a 180-minute multi-media experience. They cater for dietary requirements – let them know in advance.

More drinks can be bought from the bar and extra cost for a flight of drinks paired with the dishes.

The food

As you ‘travel around the world’ you get to explore dishes where you ‘touch down’. The food was colourful, flavoursome and the way each one was presented and delivered to the tables added to the experience.

The food is not ground breaking or sophisticated. It’s generous so you won’t go hungry!

How it works

You buy the tickets online. You will receive an order confirmation via email from our ticketing provider after you book. Check the details carefully.

Around 4 pm on the day of the event, you receive a text message with instructions for the location (HINT: Somewhere between Walthamstow and Euston). You do not need to print this for the event; they’ll have your name on the door.

On arrival, you check in and are giving some further instructions.

Relax and be prepared to be amazed!
